About Us >> Why the Alliance?

The Alliance was initially set up to better meet the needs of NHS clients working within the ProCure21 procurement process, however the offer extends into general industry and of course, PFI.

ProCure21 delivers any capital projects worth over £1 million throughout the NHS. It encourages NHS clients to work in partnership with a pared down selection of suppliers and contractors. This should minimise the time and effort spent by contractors duplicating their efforts during tendering and should help suppliers gain the experience to make future projects run even more smoothly.

How does the Alliance help?
The combined expertise of the Steam Alliance partners enables them to offer a highly desirable approach to providing steam for major projects, including:

  • Integration of the disparate and diverse aspects of the supply of the steam boiler plant and steam plant rooms
  • Guaranteed plant performance
  • A modular approach based on off-site manufacturing
  • 'Learning from industry' best practice and a proven track record

Providing steam equipment as modular Engineered Systems saves time during the design and specification stages of a project, since it avoids having to specify components individually. Off-site construction also saves time at the build site and improves health and safety during construction. The steam systems are assembled by experts and tested before arrival so the quality is improved too.

The biggest project where the Alliance has tested this approach so far is Russells Hall Hospital, where £1.25 million has been spent on Alliance products.
